“He who love touches walks not in darkness." Plato
Every year a mountain biking extravaganza takes place in Moab, UT. People from the greater Salt Lake area travel to Moab to bike its treacherous, pristine mountains. In the beginning of 2008 Matt decided to join this trip for another Moab mountain biking adventure. The weekend before the trip Matt met Kevin at a church institute class. Kevin was also planning on attending the Moab trip and an instant friendship was created. Matt and Kevin drove to Moab together. They spent the whole trip talking and sharing stories about current and past relationships along with their hopes and dreams for the future.
You might be wondering, right about now, “Why am I reading about Matt and Kevin? I thought this was a love story about Matt and Megan.” Well, Kevin is an essential part of our love story…at the time of the Moab trip, Kevin had already gone out on a number of dates with Megan, and Matt and Kevin spent part of their Moab trip talking about these dates.
About a month after the Moab trip Kevin decided to set Matt up with one of his girl friends. Kevin and Megan took Matt and his date salsa dancing at Studio 600 in Salt Lake. This was Matt and Megan’s first meeting. Prior to going dancing Matt and Megan had some time alone while they waited for their dates to get ready. They talked about their jobs and politics and found each other fun and attractive.
Salsa dancing was enjoyable, but didn’t hold everyone’s attention for too long. Eventually the group found themselves singing karaoke and busting out dance moves. Matt was the stealer of the show. He was belting out songs from Micheal Jackson, Coldplay, and Aretha Franklin. Matt’s musical talents know no bounds. :0) Matt and Megan sang one duet that night to Blink 182’s song, I Miss You.
The following day Megan and Kevin met up at church. They both realized their dating relationship was coming to an end. Later that day Kevin called Matt and mentioned that he didn’t know what Megan was thinking and that he didn’t know if he was interested in pursuing the relationship further. Matt promptly indicated that he was interested in Megan. Kevin was taken back by this statement from Matt and the conversation promptly changed. About a week later Kevin called Matt and left a message sounding something like this, “Matt, if you are still interested in Megan here’s her phone number.”
Matt called Megan and they went on their first date to an Italian restaurant and miniature golfing. A year and one month later Matt proposed to Megan and they will be married for time and all eternity on August 8th, 2009.
